Do Your Forfeit Your Time?
Feb 26, 2021Have you ever not used your allotted vacation days and regretted it, because they didn’t roll over?
Losing vacation days is not uncommon. For some employees they can accumulate vacation time, but for many if those days are not taken in the calendar year, they are forfeited.
And too often I hear people tell me they “just didn’t get around to” taking the time off!
A lot of missed opportunities can’t be salvaged.
I have a dear friend who’s kicking herself, because for 15 years she’s had the opportunity to go to Maine, stay with a cousin for free, and enjoy the beautiful Eastern coast with her family. Now her son is 18 and not interested in going. Plus, her cousin is getting ready to sell the cottage. She’s lost a great opportunity, because she just never slowed down enough to plan it out. It was just work, work, work all the time.
I don’t want that kind of regret for you.
I know most people aren’t traveling right now because of COVID, but if you work, I’ll bet you have some vacation days that will need to be taken this year.
Why not sit down with a calendar this weekend and plan out some days for yourself?
🔨 If you’re handy, think of a small home project you want to tackle…
🏕 If you like the outdoors, maybe you’d like to schedule a weekend campout or visit a national park…
🌁 If your photos are stuck in electronic format and you want to get them into albums, why not take two days off to sort, edit, print and catch up…
🛏 If you have kids, consider getting them involved in a mini-makeover of their bedrooms à la HGTV…
The point is to take the TIME for yourself and use those vacation days. Do something that is enjoyable for you.
You work hard, you’ve earned your vacation time, so take it!
